Certification vs. Legal Authority

  • Reiki certification (e.g., Level I, II, Master) from a Reiki training program or teacher is educational and professional; however is not a Licensed profession.

Professional Licensing in Florida

  • Florida does not currently have a specific “Reiki license.” Reiki isn’t regulated on its own the way massage therapy or nursing is.

  • However, the Florida Board of Massage Therapy has historically interpreted Reiki as a form of massage if it involves physical touch. Under that interpretation, if you touch a client during a Reiki session and accept payment, you might be legally required to hold a valid massage therapy license to charge for hands-on sessions.
